On the price of electricity in Denmark

I knew Danish electricity was expensive, I hadn't realised it was quite that bad for domestic users; means that a £600 computer uses electricity amounting to its cost in no more than eighteen months (200W x 23p/kWh * 8.8 kWh/(watt*year)).

250 watts costs 49 euros a month, which suggests that there's close to no point having a computer at home on Danish electricity if you can buy an EQ4 rootserver from Hetzner (http://www.hetzner.de/en/hosting/pro...oduktmatrix-eq) ... but getting a rootserver sitting somewhere in Bayern in order to run GNFS jobs feels somehow a very pure way to throw money away.

Which is why I only have 1 computer running 24/7, and I pay ~ 2000 danish kroner every 3 month ( ~ $363 ~ €268 ~ £228) . It's running Prime95 and sometimes GMP-ECM and other programs, and it's the one I use for browsing, programming and gaming also.
