Ok, I'm up and running with the 2.4C @ 3.0 with the P4P800 and one 512 MB stick of the Hyper-X Kingston 3500.
250Mhz FSB Stock Voltage HT Enabled Here are the results: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz CPU speed: 3000.21 MHz CPU features: RDTSC, CMOV, PREFETCH, MMX, SSE, SSE2 L1 cache size: 8 KB L2 cache size: 512 KB L1 cache line size: 64 bytes L2 cache line size: 128 bytes TLBS: 64 Prime95 version 23.7, RdtscTiming=1 Best time for 384K FFT length: 12.662 ms. Best time for 448K FFT length: 15.081 ms. Best time for 512K FFT length: 17.193 ms. Best time for 640K FFT length: 20.554 ms. Best time for 768K FFT length: 25.030 ms. Best time for 1792K FFT length: 63.928 ms. Best time for 2048K FFT length: 72.544 ms. With stock cooling I'm running in the low 50's... Is this acceptable, at work I'm running high 30's all be it with a heat sink that has two heat pipes and a fan that sounds like a jet. Again thanks for all your help. PS, Xyzzy if there are any BIOS tricks I should try let me know. |

Low 50s - I'm impressed. My 2.8GHz (800MHz bus) CPU is running at 2.8GHz, and it's temp is 62degC at with running 1x 20M LL. I think I need a better heatsink. Anyone have an opinion on heat? -- Craig |

Don't worry about the heat until your iteration times start to slow... That means the CPU is throttling...
My P4P800 at that speed ran around 48-53C... Honestly, anything under 70C is cool with me... |

Thanks Xyzzy.
If anyone is interested here is the heatsink/fan I have at work. Works like a charm but despite what they say seems quite loud to me, maybe it's the two other high flow rate case fans... ![]() |

those things are pretty noisy i gotta say. try out the zalman 7000-cu, it's really quiet in comparison and has excellent cooling performance.
