Are moderating rights necessary at all in the team subforums?
To keep the first post updated with the current situation requires someone with moderator rights.

Each team subforum will have a password so that only team members will be able to access them. We think even supermods might get blocked by that one!

We cannot think of a way for non-participants to view each team's forum (thought process) without compromising the game, so the password method seems the best option.

Suggestions are always welcome!

How about Team A and Team 1?

Sounds good to me. And may I suggest you as captain, since you're already a chess mod?

While I appreciate the vote of confidence in being a team leader, I cannot guarantee I'll be online every week. I'd prefer someone else had the responsibility.

I'm definitely looking to play and as far as I know I can be on every day (don't know of more than one I missed so far, though I may be wrong)

We think the subforums are set up and secure.

Once you all figure out the teams we can get the password for each forum pushed out to that team.

We arbitrarily created two teams:
  • Shaolin Pirates
  • Toxic Geckos
We think they sound pretty cool. You all can fight over who goes where.

Like the lottery, you've got to be in it to win it.

As I said before, you should PM henryzz, me, science_man_88, and Raman with the password to the Shaolin Pirates forum.

We have done so.

We assume this is agreeable with everyone else, right?

I would suggest "text-mode" moves, and the board be placed in the first post and updated after each move, same idea like in aliquot reservation thread, etc. It does not make too much sense to overload the forum with photos after every move. This would also temper the comments, as not all clowns/kibitzers would be willing to navigate to the first post to see the board (kibitzing is easy if you "see" the board at every post - or... is this the idea? ).

For being able to edit first post, the team leaders have to be mods. Therefore I can suggest Henry and Serge, they are mods already.

{ now let's see how I can use an IP scrambler and do multiple accounts on this forum to be able to play in both teams and spy on the strategy of the others... By the way, is there any mechanism to forbid a "super"mod (or an ... ultra-mod, xyzzy-mod, etc) to look in "the other's" forum? }

As for the game thread, wouldn't that have to be in this forum where both teams can see it, so that Brian-E or a super mod can maintain the one thread for both teams? As in, the first post has a picture attached of the board, and then the team captain or designated representative just makes one post per move. (It would be a really slow thread )

OTOH, you should still have at least one moderator per team forum, regardless.

Since I chose the team name, if would be fair (or as close to it as possible) to have my team be black.

By the way, we might need to declare a notation standard (or at least each team will probably have to).
