We just want to observe.

Unless you all decide to play pawns only.

without me this works out perfectly into even teams.
We could do the parity of the sum of ASCII codes of all characters in one's name, though SM88 has a pretty good split going.

if Xyzzy is out it fits me in on my suggestion, but not Raman, if we go by sum of ASCII:

Code:
a=[LaurV,Batalov,davieddy,Brian-E,Xyzzy,Zeta-Flux,henryzz,Dubslow,sciecne_man_88,Raman];for(x=1,#a,b=Vecsmall(Str(a[x]));a[x]=sum(y=1,#b,b[y])%2);a
assures me that it would be 2 against 8 right now with Raman and Xyzzy in. Raman would need to be in,in order not to drop to 1 against 8 with Xyzzy in, with Xyzzy out it still ends up 1 on 7.

edit: 1 in 7 without Raman 2 on 7 with Raman in

Perhaps someone should now draw up a proposal, as concisely as possible, of how this voting chess is going to work and allow the others to comment on it and suggest any final alterations before we go ahead and start the game?

Henryzz, as the person whose initiative this was, are you willing to do that?

Fun as the idea sounds, I think I'll have to rule myself out.

As far as I can tell so far we have:

LaurV
Batalov?
Brian-E
Zeta-Flux

henryzz
Dubslow
science_man_88
Raman

I suggest we divide the teams where I left the space unless anyone thinks this would be unfair. I would suggest it is impossible to move team during a game.
Pictures can be made after every move using something like:
http://chessup.net/php/pictureParser...&bcolor=E0E0E0

The game will be run with two private subforums, one for each team. After each move a picture will be put up of the latest.

The move timing rules are as follows:
1. Moves must be made by the team leader(or someone representing him with prior permission) at least every 7 days.
2. Each team must decide on rules upon which they will move early. 66% of people voted after more than 3 days maybe.
3. If there is a draw in votes it shall be decided by a flip of a coin done by the team leader(this rule can be changed within a team as long as it works).

It would be nice to allow the game to move quickly when possible. If a move cannot be outvoted the move should be made etc.
Moves shall be posted to a thread in this subforum. It would be nice if the first post of the thread contained all the moves made so far and the game position image.

I personally am without regular internet until the 10th. Maybe we could aim to start around then.

If people want to join midgame then they can join the side with the least number of players. I will make a post in the lounge in case there are some people who haven't noticed this thread.
Could people confirm they are definitely playing please?

Is there anything I have missed?

edit:
Chess engines are not allowed in any form.

I'm definitely playing. And I take it that there is an implicit rule against the use of chess engines.

Thankyou for the rules, henryzz. With Zeta-Flux' reminded inclusion of "no chess engines" I have nothing to add or subtract to what you've written.

I confirm my own participation as a player.

Maybe you all can identify two team captains so we can set up, in advance, the subforums?

A team name would be needed for each subforum name.

Edit: Should all members of the team have mod rights in that subforum?

My suggested nominations are:
henryzz and Zeta-Flux

"Team A" and "Team B" sound exciting.
If anyone can be even more creative than I am, please suggest better names! :-)

I would advise against this. We're hoping, if I've got it right, to allow people to late-join a team at later stages in the game (though not move from one team to the other), so while nearly every member of mersenneforum.org is undoubtedly sincere and trustworthy, why take the small risk that someone with destructive intentions decides to join a team and delete people's contributions?

Are moderating rights necessary at all in the team subforums? We could just call for supermod help if we experience any spamming problems or the like. Or otherwise maybe just the team captains should have mod rights.
