Can the "×" be replaced by " ⋅ "? In my opinion it's less visually cluttering.

Make a poll and we will implement the selection that wins.

Can we get a way to have exponents automatically link to the exponent status page on mersenne.org? That is, only if most people would find it useful. Let's say that this happens whenever somebody puts an "M" before a prime number with less than 10 digits, like so: M78834527.

It could also happen when a worktodo line is posted:

DoubleCheck=55435829,73,1

Going through threads like this one are a nightmare, and it would help me considerably. Anybody else?

I hesitate to do it, but I'm going to bump this. I really think this would be appreciated in a small way by almost everybody. It should be easy to virtually eliminate false positives. I have limited coding experience, but I reckon it would be easier to implement than what was done to the post count. Or is it not feasible with the forum software?

This is the only way we can think of to implement your idea:

Tags: [M]74207281[/M]

Result: 74207281

There is a new green icon in the forum editor to implement this tag.

One alternative would be to use js regular-expressions to parse the posts and replace the appropriate occurrences with linked code. this involves forum code alterations and its reverse engineering. It would also be wiped out each time the board software is updated.
Another would be for someone with time to code a web-page with a text input where anyone interested would copy and paste the posts in interest. The js on that page would then parse the code and print out the linked codes on the screen.

Both options can also be utilized with server side coding with PHP ( or other programs if necessary or desired).
It would also be more taxing on the server and a bit more involved programming.
World then work with js disabled.

there are times one might refer to a value that's a mersenne prime as the exponent as well like in double mersennes ( aka operazione doppi mersennes) there's a lot to factor in does spacing count etc. example is M48 could be the 48th mersenne prime or the 48th mersenne number # is often used to separate them I think but it's an important note. and in some forums like astronomy there's M48 (for messier object 48) to think about.

Yes, regular-expressions are very powerful, but do not have context intelligence.
For that you will need AI and even if you somehow mange context recognition, there will always be instances where there can be dispute over the context.
Then again it would not be the end of the world if an out of context link was inserted on the astronomy forum to the Mersenne web site.
