I now have a nagging suspicion that there were a few Celeron-M[obile] (not Pentium-M based) models with 256KB L2. However, the number would be tiny compared to the 128KB installed base.

Yes, but we're only talking about the SSE2 Celerons.

Something strange is going on though. When my 256KB cache Willi runs second passes that are designed for a 512KB cache there is a 5 or 10% slowdown. The 128KB Celeron benchmark which is running second passes designed for a 256KB cache is at least twice as slow as it should be. That just doesn't add up.

Default Prescott 1MB L2 w/P95TST2, FullBench=1

I think you said you wanted this one re-run with FullBench=1 added. Here it is. This machine has 1GB (256MB X 4) Dual Channel DDR PC3200 RAM.

Understood. However, as all of the P4 based Celerons until the D were 128KB; I still maintain that the vast majority right now are 128KB L2.

Default Celeron 128K w/P95TST2

I hope you do find some relief for the 128K Celeron slowness. When I first tried it I thought something was wrong too. So, I tried the processor in a different motherboard, same thing. Then I tried a 2.7Ghz Celeron, same thing. Both motherboards used PC133 SDR SDRAM, so I tried a motherboard with DDR RAM, same thing. That motherboard is overclockable, and when running the Celeron at 3.4 Ghz, the performance approached that of a 2.0 Ghz Northwood.

Also, this Celeron System is quite fast at other CPU intensive tasks, like encoding MPG2's. Almost as fast as a Northwood of the same clock speed. This makes me think the problem is Prime95 related, not a hardware issue.

This test includes FullBench=1, but for any subsequent tests you need run I will leave that out (the machine started thrashing with a 32768K FFT).

delta_t, strange - the Pentium M numbers were no better.

PhilF, I've another test for you to run on the 128KB cache.

Can you both download the new ftp://mersenne.org/gimps/p95tst2.zip and do Advanced/Time on exponent 20000000 for 100 iterations. Then take the timer values from results.txt and post them here.
