Today I made a couple of attempts at Colab. None of the four instances ran for more than 20 minutes. This was with one notebook per account. One account is still paid, though now cancelled. Colab has been my main processing contribution since I got hooked into it. I have retired my one functional GPU. I have been running P-1 and DCs on two CPUs, but I think I'll let it all rest for a bit. I'll even be able to turn them off once in a while!

I quite consistently get this message on my 22nd attempt from an individual session.

Default Newe colab error message today

Code:
/bin/bash: LD_LIBRARY_PATH]=lib:/usr/lib64-nvidia: No such file or directory
This is my process

Code:
import subprocess
import os
import os.path
from google.colab import drive
import sys
if not os.path.exists('/content/drive/My Drive'):
  drive.mount('/content/drive')

%cd '/content/drive/My Drive/HOOTER/'
!cp libstdc* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/

!LD_LIBRARY_PATH]="lib:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}"

!./gpuowl.exe  >>gpuowllog.txt 2>&1 &
print('gpuowl launched in background')
Oh and for the last couple days, instead of 8 hours per session per day I am getting 4 or 5.

I haven't even opened up Colab for well over a week. Didn't seem worth the effort.

Today I tried for kicks and got a T4 for an hour, enough to complete and submit four 73-74 TFs. I had to complete the 5th partially completed one manually using mfaktc.

Still not worth it for me.

This notebook continues to work with P100, K-80 without any problems with gpuOwl 6.11.380 at PRP/LL. For T4, P4 you have to leave out the gpuOwl options in the last line so that you get the "optimal" performance for this cards.
Code:
import os.path
from google.colab import drive
if not os.path.exists('/content/drive/My Drive'):
  drive.mount('/content/drive')

#!unzip -o -d '/' '/content/drive/My Drive/Directory.zip'
#!zip -r '/content/drive/My Drive/Directory.zip' '/content/drive/My Drive/gpuowl-master'

os.chdir('/content/drive/My Drive/')

!cp libstdc* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/

!nvidia-smi -L
os.chdir ('/content/drive/My Drive/gpuowl-master/')
!chmod 755 '/content/drive/My Drive/gpuowl-master/gpuowl.exe'
!ls -la
!cd '.' && /content/drive/My\ Drive/gpuowl-master/gpuowl.exe -carry short -use CARRY32,ORIG_SLOWTRIG,IN_WG=128,IN_SIZEX=16,IN_SPACING=4,OUT_WG=128,OUT_SIZEX=16,OUT_SPACING=4 -nospin -block 100 -maxAlloc 10000 -B1 750000 -rB2 20

Default New to Colab in December 2021

Hi, I am new to GPU72 / Colab.

I've always got K80 every time I tried, on my free account never any faster GPU.
I tried two long runs and got about 3 to 4 hours each.
So in summary about 7 hours of K80 with the free account.

But now I always get: "You cannot currently connect to a GPU due to usage limits in Colab."

Since it's almost new year, I don't think there is a lot of business usage of GPUs on GCE right now.
Did you ever find out what the unpublished usage limits are on Colab? Are they per day? Per week?

Is a Pro or Pro+ account worth it? 10 USD/m for a Pro doesn't sound to bad.
Most posts here in this thread are about a year old. Has interrest in Colab died down? Is it still worth it?

Oh, I see a lot of discussion now in "Hardware > Cloud Computing" that I missed before posting this.
Please ignore my last post!

Past few days on the free version I have been getting some T4 time. And a few hours of 2 sessions per account.

Here maximum T80's for only 6 hours, this for the last few months. It's free, I can't complain, even running 7 sessions is almost automated. Have done a lot of work for several Boinc projects, helping my buddies.

Default T4s are back!

As usual with the free Colab, we can't know the future, but currently...

Yup, for the last couple of days I'm getting T4's about 75% of the time, lasting a good four hours or so each.

At about the three-hour mark some ask me to do the Robot thing. A fair trade for the compute.

P.S. I *really* wish Colab Pro was available here in little Bimshire. Google, I'm willing to pay!

Yep, I never got T4s before, only K80 which take about 4 h per 72-72 bit TF, but the last couple of days it was always a T4 which finishes in 45 min. Maybe Google upgraded the hardware and now more T4a are available?

Still, even if I get a K80 or no GPU, I always have a tab open with colab at work because at least it will result in a handful of P-1 results. At no expense, that's quite nice.
