I still remember Gianfranco Zola backheeling a (gratuitous but beautiful) goal for Chelsea v Norwich a few years ago. That Walcott/Welbeck effort beats it by a mile ![]() David Last fiddled with by Batalov on 2012-06-17 at 00:15 Reason: merged |

Indeed, that was the most memorable takehome moment!
We have a nice IT (no matter what I have ever had said about them) - they arrange for all matches to be seen on the TVs in cafeteria. And the time is good: 11-30am till 1-ish. We will see on Monday if they will be inventive enough to show both matches on two screens! Tomorrow (because of the weekend goddamn it), I'll watch just one game from home. It is a pretty safe bet to guess which one of the two. |

How much of that goal was just luck? He couldn't even see the goal, much less aim/control it.

That's nice that people are happy seeing something with pleasure. When you consider consequences of these pleasures, the picture is more than gloomy. To see this goal, hundreds of billions were spent. It was spent by countries, which don't have money. Greece's troubles began with Olympic Games and Euro Soccer. It would be stupid to ask when borrowed money will be repaid, because there is not such a possibility. I don't believe in fairness of these games. Players have some incentives to win. There is huge money for winners, but incomparably more they can win by betting. Chief of UEFA watch matches with presidents and it sometimes looks like he is more important than presidents. It is nothing good. |

Your opinion is held only by a tiny minority. Most external observers appear to believe that Greece's troubles began when they borrowed too much money instead of earning it, whether through efficient business (the citizenry in general) or through efficient taxation (the government).

Greece is not only one example that sport was used to destroy country's economy. Also - to destroy political system. Besides of sport there is growing enormous betting business. Not controlled business and now it is extremely easy to bet without staying in line - one of reasons it is growing. |

Greece appears to be continuing its policy of "something from nothing". I'm thinking many people are still betting on Russia though.
I haven't really been watching the other game, but I hear it's still nil-nil. Edit with the benefit of hindsight: I suppose Russia also had nothing, at least in the second half. It's been upset after upset. Let's hope The Netherlands pulls their s**t together tomorrow. Last fiddled with by Dubslow on 2012-06-16 at 20:41 |

Yeah, painful to watch. The goal from Czechs in the very first game was already a sign that they were not going far with a defense like that, and today's goal was a deja vu.
Good luck to Greece! |
