I see a slightly grey hook, but the folder is not protected.
Have you followed those recommendations to check / set folder attributes from command prompt using "attrib" command? Also, could you post an image of this folder's icon? I can imagine grey arrow (which means shortcut) but I have never seen a hook.

Is the icon for BOINC directory the same as Prime95 directory?

I did it so.

No, "arrow" is the right word, sorry, English is not my passion...

>Is the icon for BOINC directory the same as Prime95 directory?

Yes, it´s only a normal yellow windows folder.

Now I will uninstall the program and install it then anew. Maybe this helps. If yes, Windows was responsible in all...

Then I will report to you.

Thank you very much for your help and patience!

OK, now I might have an idea of what actually happened: you have "copied" prime95 folder from some write-protected source (e.g. CD-R), however instead of dragging and dropping folder to a new location, you have created a shortcut to the write-protected media - that is why your progress is not being recorded anywhere... probably

No, I have not copied prime95 folder from some write-protected source. Please read here what I´ve made:

http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm

Step 1. You can upgrade even if you are in the middle of testing an exponent. Stop and exit the current version of the program. Optionally back up the directory.
Step 2. Download the appropriate program for your OS.
Step 3. Install the new version overwriting the previous version.
Step 4. Read whatsnew.txt.

That´s the point: "Install the new version overwriting the previous version"

Strange thing indeed: did you use installer version (exe) or Zipped version of Prime95 software?
Still what bothers me is this "shortcut" to Prime95 folder. Where is the actual folder located then?
If nothing else helps, create a new folder on your desktop, and copy there all the contents of prime95 folder and see if that helps.

I´ve used the exe, named p95v2414.exe.

Maybe there is some problem with installer then? I don't know - I always use ZIP version

OK, then try creating a new folder on your desktop and copy the contents of the original folder there - afterwards, just start and stop Prime95 from the new folder - it should create new files on exit.

Creating a new folder was not the solution. Now I installed the program anew. It functions again!

But a new problem:
Advanced-> "Priority" and "Manual Communication" and "Unreserve exponent" is grey, not black. I can change there nothing. What is defective there now again?

Thanks again...

Search the help files for the advanced password. You can even find it in the forum someplace.
