May I ask how people are getting on with their chunks? I'm planning to take 200M-240M when 100-200 finishes, which should be around 28th October, but that on its own will probably not be enough for a useable matrix.

I have neglected (i.e., not started) mine. Will have it done by next weekend.

I have taken the aliquot-sequence jobs off my large computer and set it flat-out to do 200-240, which should be done by the time I get back from Cairo on November 12th.

200-240 is done, but with 344231621 relations (288644468 unique) I still don't have enough for a matrix. I'll do 360-385; anyone interested in 330-360?

I'm trying to lunch the siever.
I have this on my home folder:

gnfs-lasieve4I15e0
gnfs-lasieve4I15e1
gnfs-lasieve4I15e2
gnfs-lasieve4I15e3
snfs (with poly)

and a batch file called start (no extension) with the following lines:

#! /bin/bash
./gnfs-lasieve4I15e0 -R snfs -o 330.txt -f 330000000 -c 1000000
./gnfs-lasieve4I15e1 -R snfs -o 331.txt -f 331000000 -c 1000000
./gnfs-lasieve4I15e2 -R snfs -o 332.txt -f 332000000 -c 1000000
./gnfs-lasieve4I15e3 -R snfs -o 333.txt -f 333000000 -c 1000000

How do I start the batch? Double click on start opening on terminal doesn't do nothing....

Edit: Stupid linux. I can do this under windows in 20 secs, I am almost at two hours to understand how to run a "batch" file under linux.

You don't need to have four copies of the siever executable with different names.

But you need to have 'nohup' at the start of the lines in your batchfile, and '&' at the end (eg

Code:
nohup ./gnfs-lasieve4I15e0 -R snfs -o 330.txt -f 330000000 -c 1000000 &
so that the shell knows to start them in the background (the &) and knows to let them keep running when you hit the end of the file (the nohup).

You also need to make the start file executable (in gnome file manager, right-click then select 'properties...', go to the 'permissions' page and click the 'executable' tickbox)

it's probably much easier to start a terminal (applications .. accessories .. terminal) and type the

nohup ./gnfs-lasieve4I15e -r snfs -R -o 330.txt -f 330000000 -c 1000000 &

command yourself ... you can then see in 'top' that the job is still running.

the -r (note lower-case) is important, sieving on the rational side gets 25% more relations per second than otherwise.
