Default ALERT: v5 server info!

Check it out everyone!

http://68.111.217.200:8080/v5/v5webAPI.html

This is gonna be awesome! LMH, Billion Digits, AND 100MDPP could all become part of PrimeNet! It's got anti-poaching stuff. Integrated benchmark stats. P-1 assignments; lots of people are now grinning uncontrollably, I'm sure. Hey, LL triple-check now a standard assignment type! Better start learning the acronyms...

Also, there IS an IP address assigned to 'v5.mersenne.org': 66.74.203.201

Unfortunately, it isn't up at the moment, all of my pings come back 'Request timed out'

They are obviously working on the security system. The interface pages won't be online until the end of testing, and so the ping options, I guess...

I think you could easily build a online factoring client with PHP and those APIs.

Unfortunately that draft is over 8 months old.

There has been talking about a new server for several years now, bot nothing seems to happen.

If you go back a page or two in the Server forum, there's a thread about replacing the PrimeNet server that's like 10 pages long. A team was put together to develop v5 a while back, but those threads have mysteriously disappeared. It's going to happen; the only question is when. I remember reading something about maybe having a test version this summer. Maybe that is the v5.mersenne.org?

Okay... v5.mersenne.org is responding now! There's not much of interest; a directory listing and some generic graphics. Headers report that it is running Microsoft IIS 5 as a web server, and based on the win2000.gif, it appears to be running on a Windows 2000 system.

Okay, I have NO idea what's going on now. Going to v5.mersenne.org now just seems to redirect you to www.turbogrid.net.
