Wait, is base-12 in base-12? Aarrggh, I'm so confused by all this.

Yeah, it is confusing.

Especially so because the optimal base is actually trinary.

Optimal base is obviously base-10, where 10 is expressed in the optimal base.

Makes no difference. The number of people under discussion is still greater than two (or three if you include me).

Your version is [decimal] base 60, my version is [dozenal] base 50. Same total quantity, but different superbases.

I wish I can type in the Babylonian numerical symbols, but I cannot.

My answer only covered the U.K. imperial units and like you no intention to visit USA.

Okay, I choose base-999. Making it 55999.

Wow, you three are all very old!

Agreed. That is why I used the term "trinary" so as to avoid most ambiguities.

One could argue over which trinary. I somewhat prefer balanced trinary, in which the digits are 1, 0 and 1. It has a number of nice properties, one of which is that negation consists of interchanging all 1 and 1 digits and that an additional symbol is not required to represent integers less than zero.

Counting goes

... 100 101 111 110 111 11 10 11 1 0 1 11 10 11 111 110 111 101 100 ...

We were discussing the relative merits of duodecimal and decimal. After all, you were the one who brought Β£sd into the thread.

Oh. I was asking about the base of the age limit you posted, which the only part I quoted, and I emboldened the two digits 55.

Can but won't.

I used an image purely to save typing. Here is the start of the table in cuneiform:
