 2010-12-16, 10:04 #1 schickel     "Frank <^>" Dec 2004 CDP Janesville 2·1,061 Posts Special project #3a - Project 300 OK, continuing along on the theme of different kinds of work, here are the sequences that are less than 300 lines in length: Code: Ooops...looks like they're all committed. Check out Project 400! I got smart(er) this time and will pull a regular update on this one, but, as always, check the DB to see where they're at before devoting much time to them. Also looks like a bit of unreserved work going on by the DB workers.... I would guess the easiest way to track would be to delete these from the list as reservations are noted, but I don't think we need to reserve these in the main reservation thread unless you want to carry on with a sequence after reaching 500 300 lines. NB.: The shorter ones on this list, except for the first one (993834) and a couple of others are going to get hard to work with pretty quickly. $2^3 \cdot 3 \cdot 5$ can increase a sequence by 1 digit every 3 lines! By the way, that looks more like a list of <300 lines than <500... is that just to start with or what? Edit: 993834 acquired the downdriver at i267! I guess I shouldn't post so late! Yes, that was supposed to be 300, not 500.

I figure we'll work up to 500 from here.....as I said, the going could get tough with those 2^3 * 3 * 5 sequences.

Indeed, that's quite bad! I figure that if many 2^3 * 3 * 5 sequences get to ~100 digits in ~300 lines, that means at index ~500, if they kept climbing at a similar rate (i.e. they keep 2^3*3*5 with similarly common small cofactors) they will be at ~167 digits. I think it's a MUCH bigger job than you might realize to get all seqs to 500 digits. Of course, it means much fewer exponents to test than you might think at first glance, but they get larger and larger so quickly...

Unfortunately you may be right. The preponderance of the drivers among the under 500 group is 2^3*3*5. Luckily though, it looks like some of them did manage to escape around the 100 digit mark, so it's not completly hopeless. Here's what it looks like under 500 lines:
71 less than 300,
166 between 300 and 350,
135 between 350 and 400,
139 between 400 and 450, and
204 between 450 and 500.

So a total of 715 sequences under 500. Luckily, there will be some that manage to get worked by the DB workers, so we won't have to handle the full extent of all the work....

I just pulled out the sequences under 500 from the complete list and it looks like ~400 of them are 2^3*3*5.

Surely you jest. I for one already KNOW it's a huge job to get all seqs to 500 digits.

That's probably as difficult as proving all of the CRUS bases.
