Program not running: icon "blink"

Prime 95 v. 24.14; Windows XP

The Prime 95 software is not running on my PC. I'm not aware of any change made to my computer that would cause it to stop.

In the tray in the lower right corner on the taskbar, my Prime95 icon remains yellow, meaning that it is not active; however, it "blinks" red every few seconds, as though the program is trying to start, but then changes its mind.

Did you run out of work to do? Open the window (right click on the icon) and read what it says in the window. Do you only let it connect via dial-up? Is it unable to reach the Primenet server?

Check and report back.

I discovered some other errors going on with my computer, so I went with System Restore, but that messed a few other things up.

Before I read your reply to my problem, I fixed what I could and went ahead and re-installed the Prime95 software (and unreserved the exponent I had been working on).

Now that it has a fresh start, it's working fine. It did NOT run out of work. I don't know what caused the problem, but re-installing fixed it. Thanks anyway.

The icon blinks for five minutes when prime95 runs into a hardware error. You might try running the torture test to make sure your machine is stable.
