Free education = High taxes.

I'm not saying it is a bad thing, but something to consider before thinking it is all roses and candy.

True, free education among other things does raise the taxes high. Moreover, with the current age formation of the population in Finland all the nice things such as free education, universal health care, unemployment benefits are becoming more and more unsustainable even with the high taxes.

I skipped eating yesterday, for reasons which may appear in the Unhappy Me thread shortly.

I've more than enough body fat for a day's fasting not to make any significant difference.

Perhaps there might be a significant difference if you were to fast periodically.
Did you watch the Michael Mosley video?

I did mostly fast today, back on the regime, though Wife is not a supporter.

There is no way I could fast for even one meal, let alone an entire weekend. I need energy to ride my bicycle.

Not to mention the minions.

It all takes energy. For those of you fasting, do you not move the whole day, or what?

Negative; 24 hours fast is suggested.
Apparently you have not viewed the Michael Mosley video either.

No, I haven't, you are correct. I just saw "5:2" and assumed. Anyhow, whatever it is, there is no way I will try it.

For others that might have more a more flexible attitude to new ideas, particularly related to their body:
The video that I was referencing might be somewhat better described using its title, being "Eat Fast and Live longer", apparently a BBC Horizon 2012 production.
I'm sure that most folk in this place would be able to find such..

Oh, it made a difference I'm sure. I weigh myself to 100g precision each morning and I recorded being 300g lighter that morning than the previous. 300g is well within the error margin (it's the weight of my morning mug of coffee for instance) and so it wasn't a significant difference. OTOH, I'm now 4.2kg lighter than I was six weeks ago, and that is a significant difference.

YMMV, but fasting while doing some kind of activity isn't a problem unless that activity is strenuous and lasts longer than half a minute or so. Here are some of my fasts:

36 hours (longest one): I hiked uphill for 20-30 minutes to a spot where I could go ziplining. I felt a bit more tired than usual, but it wasn't very noticeable.

24 hours: Ran a mile at ~90% effort. Performance tanked a lot and was really tired afterward.

27 hours: Ran 400 meters at ~95% effort. Performance dropped quite a bit. Felt tired but not completely wiped out.

27 hours: Ran a 3k at an easy pace. No noticeable difference in fatigue levels.

24 hours: Ran a few 100 meter sprints at ~99% effort. Very minor performance decrease.
