Default Screensaver

I want to have a screensaver for my computer. Yes, it´s a really good idea! Like http://ffoltre.altervista.org/matrix.jpg from MATRIX or something else. Otherwise, GIMPS is sooooo boring...

You're not the first to mention this. Actually the main concern with a screensaver is that it would take up a lot of processor power, and this would hurt iteration times. Some DC projects that have some pretty neat screensavers are SETI@home and distributed protein folding. You might consider those projects if a screensaver is a deciding issue for you.

Good luck

I wish people would have to have a real username and not be able to pos as guests, but that aside, screen savers should be renamed or re-engineered. They are not really necessary anymore for their original purpose. They haven't been for over a decade, probably two. If more people knew this fact, they might not be so inclined to use them or make them some kind of "must".

One possibility would be to have one version of Prime95 with a screensaver, and another without a screensaver. However, the people who would be able to write such a new version are apparently busy for the time being; as evidenced by the lack of announcements on the once widely anticipated Primenet v5.

Actually, I have personal knowledge of some screens that could have used a good saver. One was a VAX terminal that I could tell had been previously used a school ditstrict (I used this one in the early '90's). Also a new (IIRC ViewSonic) monitor (new since 1999 or later) that shows the Win2000 "terminal locked" block burnt in. The best thing is to use the computer to turn the screen off.

My bad. I accidentally logged in as a guest.

Maybe it is just home computers that have not needed screen savers for quite a few years. I have never before heard of a computer made in the last decade that did, but I guess business computers must be different even now. Isn't a VAX terminal kinda old technology really? It sounds like something made 20 years ago.
