Poll: Death Penalty & Abortion

In response to statements made in another thread, here is a poll.

Which of the followin best states your opinions?
1) There should be no death penalty for any crimes & there shouldn't be abortions.
2) There should be no death penalty for any crimes & there should be abortions allowed.
3) There should be a death penalty for some crimes & there should be abortions allowed.
4) There should be a death penalty for some crimes & there shouldn't be abortions.
5) For some reason I can't fit my answer into one of the catagories above.


I am not going to slice and dice and parse out everything, we are big kids.
If you want to add some provisions to your answer, I would suggest that you find one of the holes to plug your answer into.

I support the death penalty for extreme cases, and abortions in extreme cases (such as the life of the mother is at risk).

Pro abortion, with strict time limits except in cases where at least one of the lives is at serious risk.
Anti-death penalty. It's too hard to remedy mistakes retrospectively.

I voted There should be a death penalty for some crimes & there should be abortions allowed. I support abortion in rape, incest, or threat to mother as well as contraceptives. The death penalty also saves money.

In the poll choices,

"there shouldn't be abortions" means abortions should be illegal,

and

"there should be abortions allowed" means abortions should be legal,

was your intention, right?

(I.e., illegality is not the same as actual prevention)

My wording is as it is because it reflects opinon. I did not want to say "Capitol punishment should be legalized" or "abortions should be illegal", or other such like.

As you noted, illegality is not the same as actual prevention.

Since this is not a rigorous and statisically significant poll, I chose the wording to have some give in the areas that I thought folks might want some wiggle room. For example, most that oppose abortion do give allowence if the mother's life is at risk. A flat legal declarative statement, like in your question, leaves no room for exceptions.

Setting an arbitrary time limit, like 12 weeks or second term, is
just that -- arbitrary. Hence unsupportable.
I am totally pro-Choice: it's the woman's perogative until delivery.
And I am pro-Death Penaly for heinous crimes.
Like killing an abortion doctor.

Please excuse me for revealing myself as one of the unwashed masses, but the soap opera "One Life to Live" dealt with this very issue. In typical soap opera fashion, Todd Manning received a lethal injection(actually, not lethal, just meant to be) while the woman he supposedly murdered was showing up outside the door. While this sort of coincidence will probably never happen in such a form, there is the fact that evidence, especially DNA evidence, has vindicated many people who have already died from the death penalty.(Sorry, but I don't have numbers) This alone should be enough to give any jury pause. On the other hand, if you're given life in prison and your appeals have run out, perhaps suicide should be a legal choice in some instances? (another issue, another time)
