new machine

hi, i've started NFS on a new machine, to be sure to include all my work to my current account, i've taken my whole directory in which the client is running.
I've copied it to another machine, and started the client on that new machine.
in the client, i see something like this:

my question is: with the message: Warning, the guid is the config.txt does not match the value detected for the local machine. Using the detected value. will all the work on the new machine will be added to my current account ? i just wanna be sure. if yes, that's great.

Thanks for adding a new machine. We need it, and many more.

Unfortunately, you did not follow the directions and ALL of the credits earned by this machine will belong to "unknown".

There are a few things that you need to do.

First, if you have not upgraded to the latest client, PLEASE do so. Not only does the new client do a better job of handling some pseudo-nic problems, but it comes with a more complete users manual (in both English and Deutch). Besides, I would like to phase out the legacy server.

Second, it is not essential, but you can get rid of the anoying message by either running nfsnetinit or carefully editing the config.txt file to make the guid match the actual hardware. I'm sure that you would also like to give the machine a distinct name.

Since it is now running, look at the project.in file to learn the correct guid.

Third, you MUST register the machine. Copying the entire directory from another machine bypassed the registration process.

After stopping this machine, locate a folder called "pool" in the "projects" folder and delete it. This will cause the machine to revert to the initial server and go through the registration sequence. (Don't comment! It's quite a hack)

PS: If you register within 48 hours, your credits will be transferred to the proper owner.

i'll run the NfsnetInit.exe tomorrow morning when i'll get back at job.
so i'll register correctly my machine to my account :)
will all my today work will be automatiquely-transfered to my account cause I register my machine within 48 hours ?

And btw, about the guide (in English or in Deutsch), are ya interested to port it into french ? French is my maternal language, so maybe, i could translate it to help some french ppl. ANyways, it would be interesting to have that guide (maybe with few updates) for future contest. And, can we know on which project we'll work after 811M ?

Yes, the 48 hours is not a hard limit. (But I won't grant any guarantee for much longer). As for a French translation, we would welcome it, and any others that are available. If you would like to do a translation, please send your email address to me via private message and I will forward it to Lars who did the German translation and is coordinating the general translation project.

i've register correctly, and now, when im runing the client, im always getting IDLE.
example:

what can cause it ? i've saw it a couple of times.
cause now, my machine isn't running the siever

It looks like you have been blacklisted for some reason.

If you wait 6 hours, you'll get another chance.

However, if I wanted to try to figure out what is happening and speed up the process, you need to help.

What is the GUID for the machine? Which pool has it contacted? If you have a projects/pool/details.txt file, what does it say? What is in your config.txt? etc.

Would the following XYYX 151-digit cofactor be too easy for the current network?
(100^99+99^100)/101/25841/203485098221/27906659881855800015774642374581

It doesn't seem the full number has a very good SNFS representation (please correct me if I'm wrong!), so GNFS on the cofactor might be best. According to http://xyyxf.at.tut.by/status.html, it has survived 200 ECM loops at B1=100M in addition to the requisite number of loops at smaller B1's, so it probably doesn't have any factors with fewer than 50 digits.

Thanks a lot for you offer and sorry for my late reply. We definitly need a french translation of the web-pages and the manual.

The english and german documentation is included in the client-install (subfolders deutsch and englisch). If you want, you can start the translation to french right away using those templates.

I can also mail you all the html-pages for translation (i think you prefer the english ones). I am sure the contents of the web-pages will change over time but a french translation of the existing pages would be very helpful.

Good question. It should be within easy range of GNFS but, of course, we'd have to search for a polynomial ahead of time.

There's a fairly straightforward quintic for the full number that wouldn't be too bad for SNFS, but much nastier tahan the ones we generally use for Cunningham and similar numbers.


To see this, write 100N = 100^100+100*99^100.
