Default Proposed TF, P-1, ECM assignment and recycle rules

Code:
Recycle rules:
	1) If TF or P-1 is completed by another user, the assignment is cancelled.
	2) If assignment made before 2014-02-01 and assignment is 12 months old it is recycled.
	3) If assignment made after 2014-02-01 and assignment is 6 months old it is recycled.

What about older computers that select/want a certain worktype? Do they basically have no choice now?

You left out:

3. If the assignment is no longer useful, the candidate will be recycled immediately.

This won't matter for ECM assignments, but will for TF and P-1.

Being reasonable, a computer which takes 6 months to TF wavefront work does not deserve to exist.

How about setting a moving peg for "preferential work" above which these rules do not apply? Let's be aggressive and set it to 90M. Whenever we seriously penetrate the 70M range, move it to 100M and give 90M one year to finish. Keep the peg 30 million above the current range.

When throughput increases, the peg could be increased to 35 million or 40 million above the popular range, as necessary.

Isn't 2,3 increases? I've had TF and ECM assignments cancelled after 60 days for lost PCs.

Even my space heaters can complete any of the 3 you listed in a day or 3.

You forget the legacy recycling rules -- 60 days no report, no assignment.

Although you bring up a worthwhile point -- there are *many* TF and P-1 candidate assignments still out after more than two years, still reporting progress (and thus holding the candidates), even though the work was done (read: poached) long ago.

This is just a quick sample query -- there are many more well over a year old.

George: perhaps implement the recycling rules for TF'ing and P-1'ing, particularly when the work is no longer needed?

I agree with Chris. As much as I would be disappointed by having my work poached, it would be unfortunate (especially for the less meaningful factoring work) to waste more time on it if it wasn't necessary.
