Regarding the graph abovementioned, I didn't use the correct method as talked about earlier in this thread and specifically by RD Silverman and Robert44444uk here.
I guess I'll finish off the k's<1M up to n=50000 to help with the list there, but an organized bottom-up search is obviously preferable to an individualistic one here. Just a note: There's a typo in the database webpage on the last graph where it says "Here is a graph with some more higher n-values, including all first twins for 10,000 < n <46,000 and k < 100,000 found by G.Barnes."
I believe he searched for k < 1,000,000, and (an update) that range was extended to n=48000. Also, if we're crediting the participants here, my name is R. Pierrard. Not much change for my ranges recently as I've been finishing off n<50000 k<1M. As soon as that's done the efforts will be shifted to filling the chart up from the smallest missing n. Using the extreme points on a log-log chart, angles to each maximum point are: 22.071 (narrow upper bound) 22.691 (wide upper bound) 27.511 (narrow lower bound) 26.528 (wide lower bound). Averages: 22.381 (upper bound) 27.019 (lower bound) Average of averages for each (with manner of determination in brackets): 24.609 (wide) 24.791 (narrow) 24.700 (average of upper/lower bound) As you can see, there's quite a bit of agreement (maximum variation of 0.37% = 0.09°), so I think there's some validity. I don't really know what this would be used for for the search, but I suppose it's interesting. Quote:
