Question DDR3 Octa Channel vs DDR4 Quad Channel

Hello,
currently I am trying to build a PC that performs LLR calculations. DDR4 LRDIMM is too expensive for me. Therefore I still have the options DDR4 RDIMM Quad Channel Memory or DDR3 LRDIMM Octa Channel Memory. DDR4 system E5-2660 v3, DDR3 E5-2697 v2, which one has better performance?

Or if you know a better system for performance/price I would prefer this of course.

My wish is to stay under 700€.

Thanks in advance,

Chigoma333.

How big numbers do you want to test? Based on LLR, I deduce you want to test Riesel and/or Sierpinski numbers, right? Does the price apply to the entire system (PSU + CPU + MB + GPU + disk + other stuff), or just CPU, or what specifically? If the price is for the entire system, what configurations do you have in mind (more specifically than what you already said)?

My answer in advance: If you're planning to test the Sierpinski/Riesel numbers, using the program LLR, with a size less than 23 million decimal digits, your best choice, in my opinion, might be a simple AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (non-x). Pair it with a necessary amount of RAM, and you're off to the races.

If you want to test larger numbers than what I mentioned, or if there are any big differences to what I said, you should not consider my answer final. If I was right, you should.

The price target was intended for the whole system. My numbers are less than 23 million.
Thanks for the help.

You should be able to build a system for this purpose with the Ryzen 5 3600 without big trouble.

You're welcome. If you need anything more, don't be afraid to ask.
