PLAGIARISM & PSEUDO-PLAGIARISM
I felt depressed after reading "NOTICES" ( Nov issue). The reasons : 1) The widespread prevalence of plagiarism - startng from the undergraduate level to the that of Professors of Maths. 2) How the internet aids plagiarism. What makes it worse is the fact that there is no need for plagiarism since the results discovered in almost every branch of Maths constitute only the tip of the iceberg; there is so much more to be discovered.Hence anyone with the maths gene can make original contributions; there is no need to indulge in plagiarism. What is pseudo-plagisarism? Often one discovers something that is already known. Hence the concerned mathematician's discovery might look like plagiarism. A.K. Devaraj |
