Angela Lansbury

Dame Angela Lansbury, who won international acclaim as the star of the US TV crime series Murder, She Wrote, has died aged 96.

The three-time Oscar nominee had a career spanning eight decades, across film, theatre and television.

Born in 1925, she was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema.

Dame Angela died in her sleep just five days before her 97th birthday, her family said in a statement.

I heard an interview with her some time ago. She told an anecdote about an encounter with another shopper at a grocery store, after The Manchurian Candidate came out. The other shopper said something like, "I saw you in that movie, and I just want you to know that I hate you!"

Nick Holonyak

Born November 3, 1928 - Died September 18, 2022

Nick Holonyak invented the first visible light-emitting diodes (LEDs), today commonly found in applications ranging from traffic lights to consumer electronics.

Holonyak's research in optoelectronics revolutionized the lighting, communications, and entertainment industries. His work was responsible for the technology used to develop red lasers in CD and DVD players, the ability to transmit information over the Internet, and applications in replacing conventional lighting with LEDs. Holonyak also created the basic electronic element of household light dimmer switches.

I am surprised to just find out that John Brillhart passed away in May. He was a good friend.
