Let's see how those who created the "cliff" deal with it. Interestingly, the democrats kept a straight face; some said "bring it on!". Happy New Year everyone!!! ![]() |

EDIT: But Happy New Year all the same! Gone are the days I was out gadding about on NYE. Now a quiet evening at home shared with the other half, with a glass, etc. of something good is much more to our liking. Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky, The flying cloud, the frosty light; The year is dying in the night; Ring out, wild bells, and let him die. Ring out the old, ring in the new, Ring, happy bells, across the snow: The year is going, let him go; Ring out the false, ring in the true. Ring out the grief that saps the mind, For those that here we see no more, Ring out the feud of rich and poor, Ring in redress to all mankind. Ring out a slowly dying cause, And ancient forms of party strife; Ring in the nobler modes of life, With sweeter manners, purer laws. Ring out the want, the care, the sin, The faithless coldness of the times; Ring out, ring out thy mournful rhymes, But ring the fuller minstrel in. Ring out false pride in place and blood, The civic slander and the spite; Ring in the love of truth and right, Ring in the common love of good. Ring out old shapes of foul disease, Ring out the narrowing lust of gold; Ring out the thousand wars of old, Ring in the thousand years of peace. Ring in the valiant man and free, The larger heart the kindlier hand; Ring out the darkness of the land, Ring in the Christ that is to be. -Alfred, Lord Tennyson (For the sake of the general sentiments expressed I'll overlook the final religious reference.) Honestly, flying over the cliff is probably about the best option. Hurts now, but in the long run, it gets us on the right path.
But, anyway, let us revel in the wonderful gift that it is to see the dawn of another new year. Here's to a brighter, more successful, and more peaceful year for everyone in '13. Here's to joy, hope, love, laughter, and finally catching M48!!! |

Here's an explanation of sorts, courtesy of Tom Paxton:
What Did You Learn in School Today? Words and Music by Tom Paxton What did you learn in school today, Dear little boy of mine? What did you learn in school today, Dear little boy of mine? I learned that Washington never told a lie. I learned that soldiers seldom die. I learned that everybody's free. And that's what the teacher said to me. That's what I learned in school today. That's what I learned in school. What did you learn in school today, Dear little boy of mine? What did you learn in school today, Dear little boy of mine? I learned that policemen are my friends. I learned that justice never ends. I learned that murderers die for their crimes. Even if we make a mistake sometimes. That's what I learned in school today. That's what I learned in school. What did you learn in school today, Dear little boy of mine? What did you learn in school today, Dear little boy of mine? I learned our government must be strong. It's always right and never wrong. Our leaders are the finest men. And we elect them again and again. That's what I learned in school today. That's what I learned in school. What did you learn in school today, Dear little boy of mine? What did you learn in school today, Dear little boy of mine? I learned that war is not so bad. I learned of the great ones we have had. We fought in Germany and in France. And some day I might get my chance. That's what I learned in school today. That's what I learned in school. EDIT: Not meaning to go all Davieddy on you, with a poem and a song in close succession. But Paxton's music is dear to me and was the subject of discussion with a cousin in the last few days. EDIT2: But in for a penny, in for a pound- (SORRY for the highjack, firejuggler. ![]() Last fiddled with by kladner on 2013-01-01 at 01:10 |

Fold.
![]() EDIT: Though I must assert that Paxton gets the idea across in only slightly less graphic form. Last fiddled with by kladner on 2013-01-01 at 02:13 |
