Has anyone used these? I can get them for $35 or less on Ebay (if seller accepts my offer of $30). Figured I could run a bunch of these very cheaply. I'm going to buy two of them to test with and have uses for them if they don't work well enough. If it works with Prime95 I'll buy a bunch more. Can hardly go wrong for that price.

But hey, try it, have fun, if you like. It will be interesting to see how it competes with Raspberry Pi or damaged cell phones. It should beat a Pentium II. |

These are the specs for the processor: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us...-1-83-ghz.html These are the specs for the stick: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us...tck1a8lfc.html Once I get a couple of these, they'll be 100% dedicated to GIMPS and nothing else. I'll post results of how long it takes to do the LL on a particular exponent. Just the first go around, not the verify. The guy on Ebay has almost 2,000 of these available so I have time to get more later: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-STCK1...=true#rpdCntId Last fiddled with by ssybesma on 2019-03-10 at 01:14 Reason: correction |

But are those benchmarks for a single core or all four? I see a Z2760 listed, which is 2 cores / 4 threads at 1.8 GHz and a smaller L2 cache at 512k. At 3072K FFT size, it's listed as 692.42 ms/iter. As a comparison, I have an Atom D2550 from roughly the same era in my barebones file server at home, and it does 343.01 ms/iter for one worker on two cores, or 682.42 ms/iter for two workers. Slightly faster clock speed at 1.86 GHz, larger L2 cache at 1MB, and it's 64-bit (the Z2760 is just 32-bit), but the same 2 cores / 4 threads. That $35 Ubuntu Compute Stick is supposed to have a Z3735F inside. One generation newer, 1.33 GHz base / 1.83 GHz burst, 4 cores / 4 threads, 2 MB L2 cache, and 64-bit, so it might just be able to crank iterations faster than that RPi 3A+ if running on all four cores. However cooling might be a problem and I wonder how long it will be able to run at that burst frequency since the SDP (Scenario Design Power) is listed at just 2.2 watts. But by all means, have fun, isn't that what this is all about in the end. ![]() |

By way of reference, my Odroid C2 gets the following per-iter timings on DC-range exponents, running Mlucas on all 4 cores:
2560K (p up to ~49.0M): 118 ms/iter 2816K (p up to ~53.8M): 135 ms/iter 3072K (p up to ~58.5M): 147 ms/iter I believe the C2 is ~1.5x an RPi3 in that regard. A sold-for-parts Galaxy S7 phone of the kind I just took delivery of for $50 gets ~3x that total throughput, i.e. a net ~25|22|20 iters/sec for DCs at the above 3 lengths. |
