Novak Djokovic will not be playing in the Australian Open.

He has left the country after his attempt to get his (second) visa cancellation overturned was unsuccessful. In theory, he could have appealed the Federal Court's ruling, but in practice the clock had run out and he knew it.

IMO he never should have gotten a visa in the first place. He wasn't vaccinated. His "medical exemption" - he'd been infected 6 months previously - didn't meet Australia's Immigration rules.

The Tournament tried to make up its own rules in order to get him in.

The Australian Border Force bollixed things up in detaining him, so he got sprung from detention.

But then Immigration Minister Alex Hawke played his ace, using his Ministerial power to re-cancel Djokovic's visa. The court appeal failed because Appellant failed to show the decision was either unlawful or irrational.

Some tennis players are saying this "wasn't his fault." True, Djokovic had enablers, not least the Tournament. And the Australian authorities didn't exactly cover themselves with glory handling the situation.

But the fact remains, if he'd simply taken the jab months ago, none of this would have happened. And he'd be playing in the Australian Open.

BTW... The leader of China has a name that maps into that space. And some *seriously* didn't take kindly to the "China Virus" label.

We live in very interesting times. What part of this isn't yet clear?

Sincerely, no disrespect intended. I find it tiring having to say "sorry" so very often for slights that only snowflakes could have possibly experienced.

Empirically, others have enjoyed easier lives.

"Novax Djocovid", it is his own fault for not getting the vaccine. Fair enough if he does not want to get vaccinated, but then he has to stay home and not play tennis in public.

It is your right to choose for yourself, but when in public is it your responsibility to help protect others.

French parliament approves more restrictive vaccine pass

One of you mentioned socialism and another communism. I nearly had my head handed to me, electronically, buy a friend because I had written they are the same. I then ask him if he thought the old USSR was communist. He said it was. Then, I wrote it out: "Union of Soviet Socialist Republics." I ask him why there is a socialism reference in the name. I did not get much of an answer.

The differences between the two are still about as foggy as possible for me.

I know one nurse who had a family, all with COVID, in the hospital. The husband and son (a teenager) died of COVID. The wife survived. She still refuses to get vaccinated (maybe because she now has natural immunity?).

A prominent Republican died of COVID in Texas, but the right-wing media would only state that they died of pneumonia.

One of my wife's friends was trying to convince people that the virus was created by China and that the genes in the omicron variant were clearly modified before it was released into the wild. She also claims that there are many studies showing the effectiveness of ivermectin and zinc in treating COVID, but the liberal media is preventing reporting of that.

I just don't know why these people are so determined to continue believing these conspiracy theories.
