That depends. A 2-digit day number is sometimes obligatory for filling in dates on forms (MM/DD/YY). With that convention, 12/11/21 and 12/22/21 are the only ones left standing for this month.

Seconded! And, ambiguous. Another nice thing about ISO is you can use it in file names, and then easily sort by date (when the data set doesn't need a "real" database).

I think VMS's proper handling of date and time predated ISO8601 by years.
DEC VMS had a well designed date/time handling facility decades ago, with real staying power. https://openvmsenthusiast.blogspot.c...-and-time.html
I used the process-id & date-time-string combo to create highly-reliably-unique log & batch & temp file names for automatic submission as CAD specialist productivity aids.

Start with today's date, which is
12 1 2021
then add the month and day which yields
12+1 2021
followed by adding the previous result to our year
13+2021
see this new 4 digit number
2034
then add the 2 digit numbers
20+34

54 *yeaaaaah* and 54 is just like a deck of cards with two jokers.
