Default how to start with P-1?

After my range for primesearch is done,
I probably want to take a (small) to test for P-1.

How do I "reserve" a range or where can I donwload a file with exponents to factor?

In wich thread(s) do I have to reply on this?

Thank you.
Cedric

In this forum dave_0273 will post a "P-1 block of 100ish" thread, you copy the exponents he posts into a worktodo.ini, go through them and then e-mail them to George. There haven't been any ranges for a while but I gather he's back now so watch this space.

Ok I will check later again.

Ps. these block posted in this forum look alot like a "normal" exponent to crunch. Or am I wrong? Where is the "b1" and the "b2" bounds??

Thx

Using Pfactor= in worktodo.ini makes prime95/mprime pick the "best" B1/B2 values based on your memory and such.

From undoc.txt:
You can do P-1 factoring by adding lines to worktodo.ini:
Pfactor=exponent,how_far_factored,has_been_LL_tested_once
For example, Pfactor=10000157,64,0

I have been away for a little while, but there are still 3 blocks of work that are still unreserved. They are the ones that are stickied. One block of 98, and of 83 and one of 130, all in the range of 19.8M-20.0M.

If you would like to do one of these sets, just say so in the thread and I will unsticky it and reserve it to you. When you are finished, just post your results back in the thread. That way I have a copy of all results that have been done by mersenne-aries.

Marc is correct, "Pfactor=" lines will make prime95 find the best B1/B2 values based upon your computer.

If you would like a smaller set to do, just let me know. There were a couple of smaller sets there, but they have all been reserved at the moment. I could whip up some more blocks of 50ish if you wanted.

I usually let the number of blocks of work dwindle right down before I post more, just to make sure that they are done in order - to a certain extent.

Dave,

I am interested in a smaller block of 50 exponents to test.
Please mail them @ cedricvonck (at) skynet (dot) be.
Thank you.

There are 3 small sets stickied at the top of mersenne-aries. Simply post in the thread to claim the exponents. There are 2 blocks of 50 and 1 block of 33.

I was looking at your project, and was wondering do I need to enter a user id in prime95 to get credit on your stats. I am not a member of Gimps so I dont have a primenet user id.

You don't need to have a Primenet/GIMPS ID, but any stats submitted to http://mersenne-aries.sili.net will be credited under the generic "mersenne-aries/unknown" account.
