Ok then, I guess he doesn't need to reserve the range here. Can we mark something like 195000 to 250000 reserved by SOB, and SOB members can reserve a range in between that OR something like that.
Thanks for pointing out! |

So when we do combined sieving, we sumbit the factors both to SoB sieve (http://www.seventeenorbust.com/sieve/) and to the same ole PSP email address. If we have an account we get points for both project?
Plus, how do we set aside the same range for SoB as here? Last fiddled with by TNTWeazy on 2006-03-27 at 05:23 |

The reservation procedure is set up as followed at the moment:
1. PSP sievers that do not care about the SOB stats or that are not willing to create a yahoo account: Reserve a range from the two ranges marked as available. (109000-122000 and 134000-195000). All results will be send to me as normal and i take care that the SOB part is send in. All SOB results from these ranges are counted for a single special PSP user.(Ask Joe_O for more details) 2. Siever that want to have stats in both projects: Handled like done by SHauge or Greenbank. Reserve a range here and in the yahoo forum. Send in your results in both projects. I will not touch your SOB factors. 3. SOB sievers that do not care about PSP stats. No procedure set up so far. Attention: the range from 195000-197000 is not combined as it is already done for SOB. Can we have a user called "SOB", into which all such factors go into? |

It has been pointed out to me that there is an uncertainty whether the sob sieve factors report script can handle factors for non-sob k's. I therefore filter out (remove) the PSP factors before reporting them to sob.
I agree I should not have posted the range here. I didn't read the changes that were made carefully enough. |

Some one should write a combined sieve guide. Unfortunately, I am a bit busy at present. (Any one want to volunteer?

NeoGen @ AMDUsers already prepared this one
http://www.amdusers.com/modules.php?...ewtopic&t=1962 If it is appropriate (refers to sob50.zip), we could ask in forum? He is online now. I will ask... |

Just saw your PM Dave. The guide I did for the regular sieving has the basic guidelines for sieving, but I will have to do a few bits of changes now for combined sieving. (reference to the combined dat file, explaining the PSP/yahoo group options, etc...)
It shouldn't be too hard to make those changes. I've even gotten myself into SOB Sieve some time ago, just for seeing how it works. My nickname appears on our team, but I have 0 points because I just sieved a very small "test range", and found no factors. I'm assuming that there will be no more non-combined sieving at PSP from now on, right? |

There may be in the future. The reason for combined sieving is this:
SoB had (at least) 4 different .dat files throughout it's history (ignoring new .dat files when a prime was found). 300k to 3M 1M to 20M 3M to 20M 991 to 50M (the default now) I'd imagine that every range sieved by the 300k to 3M file has been resieved with a higher dat file (especially as first-pass PRP tests are around n=10M now). But that still leaves large chunks of ranges that have only been sieved to 20M. At a guess I'd say that there's 600T of sieving that has been done with a 20M dat file. (Looking at the Archive threads show that the 50M dat started being used around 500T but wasn't used for all sieving until ~800T). The majority of sieving from now on (125T to 500T) will be combined, occasionally there will be small ranges where combined sieving isn't required. Meanwhile SoB has approximately 60T remaining unsieved under 2^50 (1125T) but, as I said, half of this has only been sieved to 20M. |
