Glucas and GIMPS

Can I use the Glucas software for participating in GIMPS?

For example, I would be interested to setup Glucas on a Mac machine.

How can I use Glucas for contributing to GIMPS? Will I be eligible for the $100,000 prize for 10M-digits long mersennes?

I wrote a page detailing how to compile a binary of Glucas, and whilst the instructions refer to an older version, it should still work fine.

Are you building on a G4 or a G5? If you are building on a G5, try IBM's xlc compiler. You can use it for a 60 day trial period and it will optimize much better than gcc. Post any benchmarks when you are done.

Hello all,

Last two months I've been busy enough to be out of any Glucas/GIMPS tasks. Even I had not time to read the forum news.

Fortunately I think in next weks/months I will have more time to finish a new release of Glucas with new Primenet server capabilities.

I strongly would like to finish before end of June , but who knows.

OTOH, I built some snapshots (with some fixes and new test for save files) and put them on my slow server:

as you can see, no progress since february, but I think it will change soon.

Hi Guillermo,

I downloaded the most recent version of Glucas from
ftp://ftp.oxixares.com/pub/glucas/snapshots/


I used the current snapshot for gcc-3.5 on 4 of my AMD/X86 systems:
gcc-3.5-20040327.tar.bz2
I used the following to compile Glucas
# ./configure CC=gcc35
# gmake
# gmake install
worked correctly on all of the AMD/X86 systems.


gcc35 will not install under Darwin 7.3.0, so I used gcc-3.4
gcc-3.4-20040331.tar.bz2
on the Mac. Since Darwin does not support 'gmake', I used
the following to compile Glucas.
# ./configure CC=/usr/local/bin/./gcc34
# make
worked correctly
# make install
failed on the Mac.


The time results for 'selftest all' and the short info is below:
P3-1300 = 54m20s
G4-867 = 37m57s
K7-2127 = 16m16s
P4-1900 = 12m34s
P4-2535 = 9m00s
