Default Hmm, is this real?

Starting from https://www.mersenne.org/report_top_...ate=&end_date=
and rolling through the work types, I note:
dmbeeson #92 all work types; 98.3% DC, 1.7% PRP/LL first test; 177721.671 ghzd; up apparently more than 999 positions in past week since it's *** for the count;
dmbeeson all double checks: #4, up 429 positions in past 7 days, 174,733 GhzD (#433 is ~1920 Ghzd, implying ~24,688 GhzD/day or ~49. Radeon VIIs on linux ROCm)
dmbeeson LL doublechecks: #3, up 412 positions in a week, 174733.245 GhzD (#415 is at 1912 GhzD/day, 20 attempts)
1446 attempts, or about 200/day?!
dmbeeson does not appear in top 500 for tf, P-1, first-primality, LL first, PRP first, PRP DC
(#500 in LL first test is 5754 GhzD)

Any idea what dmbeeson is running on? A look at "recently cleared" indicates it's LLDC 57.3-57.5M (Cat 4) at age 21-22 days, implying a flock of hundreds of workstations. (Perhaps there's a disciple of Marin Mersenne at Beeson Divinity School at Samford University?)

If it's real, and sustained until spring, it implies verifying M(57 885 161) as 48th Mp in under a year. Currently 57 006 to go, ~285 days at indicated dmbeeson rate, and sooner with the rest of us helping.

dmbeeson has verified results from back in 2008
https://www.mersenne.org/report_ll/?...dispdate=1&B1=
And under their old user name back to 1999

It looks like someone has decided to invest some firepower in the process (maybe cloud work.) Or they have decided to fake loads of results.

Neat I did not know such detailed reports existed.

Is there a way to fake DC results? Currently, they match 1437 of 1448 DC attempts.

The production rate is phenomenal. given that their surge only started at the beginning of August (2nd August by the looks of it). https://www.mersenne.org/report_ll/?...dispdate=1&B1=

No problem.

Either a great deal of compute has been brought to bear, or else they're cheating.

Based on the "many eyes" around here, we'll know which it is soon enough (I'm modeling a 97.8% probability it's the former).

57,000,000 is the Cat 4 range. So, if the computers/user hasn't had enough results in the recent past that is where they would get their assignments. How much would all of that compute cost on the various cloud farms?

More than a small amount.

At the same time, leveraging on "cloud compute" would be less than it would cost to provision and power in situ kit.

But, maybe, some kit was just laying around, doing nothing, and has been reprovisioned. It's been known to happen.
