Here in the new.S.of.A, Duckduckgo has been running a commercial on TV that skewers Chrome's lack of privacy

Amazon’s Ring devices are not just personal security cameras. They are also police cameras—whether you want them to be or not. The company now admits there are “emergency” instances when police can get warrantless access to Ring personal devices without the owner’s permission. This dangerous policy allows police, in conjunction with Ring, to decide when access should be granted to private video. The footage is given in “​​cases involving imminent danger of death or serious physical injury to any person.”

These cameras can exacerbate racial profiling. They can also make people feel more paranoid, rather than more secure, because of the constant alerts the device is capable of providing.

Sen. Markey also raised concerns about Ring’s audio recording of people in public places, and asked Amazon for information about this. The company failed to clarify the distance from which Ring products can capture audio recordings. Earlier this year, Consumer Reports revealed that Ring’s audio capabilities are more powerful than anyone anticipated, collecting conversation-level audio from up to 25-feet away. This has disturbing implications for people who walk, bike, or even drive by dozens of these devices every day, not knowing that their conversations may have been captured and recorded. The company also refused to commit to eliminating the default setting of automatically recording audio.

Facebook has started to use a different URL scheme for site links to combat URL stripping technologies that browsers such as Firefox or Brave use to improve privacy and prevent user tracking.

Since it is no longer possible to identify the tracking part of the web address, it is no longer possible to remove it from the address automatically. In other words: Facebook has the upper hand in regards to URL-based tracking at the time, and there is little that can be done about it short of finding a way to decrypt the information.

Why are the offered "solutions" to always fight, instead of ignore. If everyone ignored FB it would either die, or decide to be more friendly to survive. Oh wait, FB be more friendly? Haha, that will never happen.

I deactivated my account in 2014 if I remember correctly. Never looked at it again.

Hmm, there's an NSF grant involved for an Internet Observatory project. Award #2131929, David Lazer (Principal Investigator) and David Choffnes (Co-Principal Investigator) have $5.2 million of a $15.7 million grant to play with.
