Default Msieve issues running 31-bits large primes

Hi,

I'm using this msieve version from ATH, the msieve-svn1018-vbits128-sandybridge one and since then I can't manage to post-process the 31-bit jobs from NFS@Home queue.

Examples are:

The relations are always unzipped with Winrar 4.20 64 bits, msieve batch file as:

Code:
start /low /min msieve.exe -i C173_386xx483_19.ini -s C173_386xx483_19.dat -nf C173_386xx483_19.fb -v -nc "target_density=120" -t 8
How do I troubleshoot when msieve crashes without any message?

In my list for Thursday, I’ll need to dig out old msieve versions. Just curious why it fails only for 31 LP even if I set to a lower td.

Those examples do look fairly oversieved. Can I suggest trying with 10-20% less relations?

Maybe try a recompile with the latest Msieve?

Revisiting an old thread. After updating my windows machine I haven’t managed to have msieve working, same issue. Thought it could have been related with lack of Windows updates since 2013 but by the looks it’s not.

My next step was to compile msieve on Linux but failed so I’ll try it once again. Also I’ve installed MSYS2/Mingw-64 on windows but lack of experience on how to compile msieve, I’ll need to take time to read the documentation and get in touch with ATH. Also I’ll need to rerun an old msieve version.

Anyway, still think something is broken on one of the msieve versions since it was running in the past on my machine, something was done on the code, that’s the problem of having it open source, hope I’m wrong and apologies beforehand. I’m upset since I cannot run the 31 LP jobs for NFS@Home for the last 3-4 years where I feel I can make a difference with an old laptop at the end of the day.

I don't think it is the source code. The problems I sometimes have is in the Make process. Do I have ECM installed properly? Which version? Do I have CUDA installed? Latest drivers? Legacy boards? Zlib or no-Zlib? Missing sort-engine. No helper file. Incompatible run-time libraries. I finally work through it. Then again I am using Linux and have no knowledge of Windows environment. It will compile and make but there may still be something missing.

I have been running Msieve with every few dozen r-versions since the release of 1.52 (or was it 1.51?). I have a CUDA enabled version using r993 and a VBITS=128 on my Sandy Bridge Linux system running r1025. The code is rock solid. The datasets gives me headaches at times.

Can you share with me all your msieve versions?

Yes I could but I don't think that would be beneficial. Your environment has to match mine. The LD_LIBRARY_PATH and SDK have to be exactly the same. The .ptx files would need to be generated. I guess I could send the whole Msieve folder. Then again you can get it from sourceforge.

If you want a previous version of msieve, (at least on linux) you can use subversion and add in a revision number. I used to use this for some old hardware I had that wouldn't run the current revision at the time:
Code:
svn co -r 350 https://svn.code.sf.net/p/yafu/code/trunk <local-directory>
would acquire revision 350. The current revision is 378, so you could use anything earlier for the revision number in the call.

Edit: If it helps, I have a thread on msieve at How I Install msieve onto my Ubuntu Machines.
