Hey there.. i bought myself a new computer a while back..worked fine for a while.. then started having random freezes.. computer just got stuck and had to press reset button to restart..
Ran memtest twice for 6h+ and it showed no errors.. But never passed prime95 tests.. first error i got was FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4.. also after gettin that result on 1 or 2 workers i stopped the test wich then made my pc freeze..this happend everytime i stopped a test after gettin an error. if it be 2 min into test or couple of hours..always freeze when stopping rest of workers.. This also happends when i stopped using Aida64 benchmark test.. pc freeze.. i tried switching ram slots and using 1 and 1 ram piece..but then when trying ram switching the prime tests then caused my pc to freeze again always but this time it turned black..and had to turn of power supply to turn on my pc.. until tried with 1 of my ram pieces wich gave me hope cause then i could use my pc for a while with no freezes and i could run prime with no pc running black and freeze.. for a couple of hours..... then the first freeze came back..didnt turn black just the screen freezing.. checked my logg in windows wich showed a kernel power 41 (63) wich i googled and found out it was outdated audio drivers could be the issue..and installed new ones..and havent seen a freeze since ( 10-15 hours) wich is a record! :) but i have failed 2 primes..Blend test gave me an error like this[Sun Apr 20 01:23:17 2014] Self-test 28K passed! Have you cleaned out any dust accumulated in the CPU's heatsink and fan? I use a small paint brush and a vacuum cleaner, but, due to static electricity hazards, it may be wiser to use a brush and a can of compressed air. Anyway, install a CPU temperature monitor and see what you read from it. Failing that, see what readings you get in BIOS. Please report back with your temperatures and model of CPU and what cooler you have on it.

I would also recommend cleaning out the inside of your computer. Pop the side case off and go nuts. Compressed air is decent but have a vacuum cleaner as well. Make sure the PC is unplugged and try to avoid using a vacuum attachment with bristles.
Go get CPUID HWMonitor. It's got a whole bunch of different things like temperatures and voltage. Take a screenshot of it showing everything. If you CAN, try to get a screenshot after it has been running Prime95 for a little bit. I want to see if your CPU is shutting down from overheating, or if your power supply is failing, or if your CPU isn't getting the appropriate amount of power, etc. |

I've seen this before. The problem went away when I disabled all the power-saving C states in the BIOS. This works for me since I run prime95 all the time and never want to save power.

@OP: If you bought the computer... I'm not sure what options you have in the BIOS. |
