Based on the numbers on the latest V5 report we require 9,576 more tests to complete first time testing of all exponents of less than 10,000,000 digits.
I am counting the NO-LL (No LL tests done) and the LLERR (LL test was in error) columns. But don't hold your breath. At the current rate it will be several years before the final LL test is done for this range. Then come the Double Checks. That count is near 300,000 remaining!!! Recently GIMPS completes about 3,600 DC's per month ... linearly speaking, that leaves us about 7 more years to complete Two LL tests on all exponents with less than 10,000,000 digits. I wonder if the rate will increase much after someone finds that elusive 10,000,000+ digit prime :)

Another thing, according to the status.txt report on the v4 server there are 9137 exponents assigned for first time tests below 33219000 (some will be double checks, some are marked as factoring jobs...) Jacob |

Or, you could just put them in the v5 server--being a beta thing, the v5 server is going to only have "serious" members who are not going to let an exponent sit around until it expires.

Just a friendly reminder to impatient folks:
As I've explained in the past, the GIMPS project itself is not being held up just because some exponents below a certain milestone aren't all being actively tested, as long as all the CPUs that might've been testing them are instead testing some other higher-than-that-milestone assigned exponents. Any "delay" in reaching the milestone on which you're focused is matched by a speedup in reaching higher milestones later on. |

I guess "tidying up" can be left until the first
10M digit prime is discovered (ETA or half-life ~3 years). Meanwhile "GIMPS countdown" says there are 5846 1st time LL tests remaining below M44. There are a further ~1600 below 10M digits (and exponent 2^25). Anyone else miss the old colourful GIMPS Status page? David We discussed this milestone about a year ago when there were ~25,000 tests outstanding. Fair progress I would say. Last fiddled with by davieddy on 2008-05-06 at 09:25 |

I would also like to reserve those missing exponents to "tidy" up but I guess its more extra work than its worth.
