Damage? It is not damage that they cause, but instead it is complete chaos. They stop us from ever fulfilling our future evil plans with there cutesy little wings flapping about all malicious like. If I may make a maths-quibble, the chaos is built into the system in question; the "malicious flapping" of which you speak is merely one of innumerable sources of miniscule perturbations which make such systems long-term unpredictable, that is, which cause them to reveal their inherently uncooperative and obstreperous natures.

Now, as whether the butterflies' wing-flapping is one of most *annoying* sources of such perturbations and as such deserving of a species-level global pogrom, well, that we can discuss.
