Hello everybody, I wonder about the involvement of our middle school to GIMPS project. I want to ask how generally works program verification Prime 95th Computers must be connected to one server over a LAN? Or it works through the Internet network? Can someone explain how it is progressing and the key question is: it will threaten the security of sensitive data (personal data, access to secondary school leaving exams)? Our school also has a tutorial site studnstký common and therefore there is a risk of unauthorized Wheelchair access to secret information.

Running Prime95 should not expose your school to any danger. It's safer than, say, running a Web browser (which I expect the computers do).

The computers may be configured to connect through a proxy. If you use a LAN to connect to the internet.

On the menu undet "Test", "PrimeNet", in the dialog box there is a button labeled "Connection". This will let you set a proxy.

You can download the source code and inspect it yourself. You could additionally block Prime95 from the Internet (included Windows Firewall) if you want to be sure and only enable access to the Internet to report results. If you're really paranoid you can run Prime95 (or mprime) with a restricted user (i.e. guest) and give it only access to one folder (the working directory).

I conclude with the other posters - there are a lot programs which are more insecure.
