Default Prime95 crashing on server update?

One of my computers (with two cores doing P-1) stopped contacting PrimeNet over the weekend. When I went to check on it, I noticed that Prime95 had stopped running shortly after finding a factor in stage 1 for one of the exponents.

I checked the prime.log file, and found something like this:

Quote:
Updating computer information on the server
<timestamp>
Updating computer information on the server
<completion dates being sent>
The second instance of "Updating computer information on the server" refers to when I restarted Prime95. This suggests that Prime95 crashed as it was attempting to contact the server. Yet I did not see any Windows message about Prime95 crashing.

Has this happened to anyone else before?

OK, Prime95 just crashed again. This time, I got a message saying that "Prime95 has encountered an error and needs to close."

Does this mean something could be wrong with the hardware?

That's for Mprime, though. I'm using the Windows version.

edit: At least one poster says that it happens on Windows as well. In my case, however, there was no factor found before the second crash.

My case is a bit different, though. The first crash happened about an hour (not immediately) after the factor was found. There was no factor associated with the second crash.

Still, I'm interested in knowing whether it's the same bug.

I had that same abend on about a dozen occassions with v25 throughout 2010 but only on my two Intel E6550s.

George believed he has it fixed in v26. Are you running v25 or v26?

I've only done a dozen P-1 since; one factor found without a crash but that is NOT a sure-fire test since not ALL factor results on those PCs crashed Prime95.

Here is a detailed post from v25.9 with the errors attached.
Again hopefully it is fixed in v26

Here's the error as it appears in the Event Viewer:

Quote:
Reporting queued error: faulting application prime95.exe, version 25.11.1.0, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.3959, fault address 0x00010a5b.

I just noticed that Prime95 is actually still running. On closer inspection, it seems that there was no second crash; apparently, the second entry in the Event Viewer corresponds to when the error message appeared. Hence the red X icon on the first entry (but not the second one).

So I guess the crash *is* related to the segfault bug. I just find it odd that the error message would appear three days after the program crashes.
