We have taken the wiki offline permanently.
We do not have the motivation to diagnose and fix whatever is wrong with it. If you would like to adopt the wiki we are more than willing to assist. We have the last known good backup for the database and server, from July. (The August backup is a backup of everything that is broken. Good thing we keep all of our backups!) ![]() |

Maybe wikia.com is a solution?
They use the same Mediawiki software as Wikipedia, and Wikipedia is capable of displaying math formulas. http://community.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Math |

GP2 is right. Wikia probably would be better in the long term, given the problems you've had.

I think Wikia isn't a good idea:
- the mass of advertising is overloading any page - there seems no access to all areas of the wiki - no multilanguage? Many parts like php via Putty, DBacces via xammp (or like), installing extensions and other things may be restricted. More than two years of my own Wiki (for jigsaw puzzles) I consider for a long time to create a math Wiki instead of my "Riesel and Proth Prime Database" Page, but the handling should include not only pages, but also a database via php for numbers/primes to show/store/add them. My Wiki is multilanguable (by now German + English), all templates are created to make the users work easier and lesser: you don't have to know Wiki-syntax or language. By now there're 30,000 pages and counting every day. I have to upgrade to a newer version, too (1.25 now) and also plamming to move to an own domain, but not yet time to do so. When moved, I could install a math-Wiki on rieselprime then. |

Not to get off topic, but I'm still working on that rewrite of the original RPPDb site. It's at http://happy5214.freedynamicdns.org/rppdb/app.php/. My MySQL server is broken right now after a botched upgrade (it only runs in safe mode), so I'll probably reinstall the OS in December. (MySQL is a prerequisite for KDE's Akonadi service, so I can't just remove and fresh-install it.)

I bet more than a half of the late wiki's database volume was taken by Raman's tables, full of color and fury, signifying nothing.

Or, perhaps, because the wiki wasn't terribly well locked down someone did a DOS on it (doesn't always have to involve a lot of net traffic; a fork bomb aka rabbit virus or "wabbit" is a classic example)? Stepping back, is there any reason we're suggesting we run our own wiki, or move the *actual* *content* anywhere other than Wikipedia (where they have a team worried about this kind of thing)? |

I don't know if only the pages for the whole space were measured, the MediaWiki software alone are ~250 MByte! |

We should probably also remove the link to the wiki from the GIMPS home page.

There is a fair bit of the wiki that is too narrow for wikipedia. Having a separate one allows us to go deeper in some areas. Also, inject MP specific info into some of the other WP articles would not be appropriate.
