Hi, a small list of things to do to bring PRP to parity with LL on the web interface:
1. manual testing assignments: add PRP-first-time and PRP-double-check as work types. 2. Reports: add "Top-producers / first PRP", and maybe PRP-DC. 3. To "Top-producers / Totals overall" add columns for PRP and PRP-DC. 4. To "Current progress / Recent Cleared" add PRP. Last fiddled with by preda on 2017-12-17 at 06:26 |

PRP:
https://www.mersenne.org/report_top_...tom/?type=1007 PRP-D: https://www.mersenne.org/report_top_...tom/?type=1008 PRP-CF: https://www.mersenne.org/report_top_...tom/?type=1009 PRP-CF-D: https://www.mersenne.org/report_top_...tom/?type=1010 For now, they seem to be availible only by manipulating GET-parameters. |

If we're talking about adding it to the publicly-visible portion of the website...
Job #1 is going to be explaining to the world what the PRP test is and how it works and why it should be part of GIMPS. It's not clear to me that PRP is ever going to move into the spotlight - in much the same way that the whole GPU factoring effort goes on behind the scenes. Pages like https://www.mersenne.org/manual_gpu_assignment/ exist and aren't hidden behind a password, but are not linked to any of the public-facing pages. Heck, I am not sure *I* understand how PRP fits into the bigger picture, despite trying to keep tabs on this forum. |

http://mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=22510 So instead of LL test we might as well run PRP tests since even though they will not prove a number prime they *will* prove a number composite which is what happens >99.99% of the time. If a number is shown to be a PRP then we need to run 2+ actual LL tests, but many LL tests are always run anyway whenever we have a positive result. The chance/risk that a >20M digit Mersenne number should be an actual 3-PRP without being prime is so infinitesimal small that a positive PRP test is probably more likely to be prime than a positive LL test due to the better error checking. |

can you summarize PRP?
If you do a PRP and discover something, are you the discoverer or is the LL'er? Does PRP take less resources? |

my h/w is already more error free than usual (ecc & server grade h/w), so is this not worth doing for me?

So once everybody upgrades their software will the (new) PRP test be the standard for checking primality of mersenne candidates (instead of LL?). Or will they coexist?
