So I am brand new and just starting testing! I have some pretty basic questions that may seem dumb to most. I have a 3.2ghz dual core with 8gb of memory running windows 7 64bit, just for some basic info. I have to workers and I set the daytime memory to 1000mb. Then for stage two I set the memory for 7000mb. I started the test in the afternoon and it got to around .17 before stage 2. I went to bed and woke up before it goes back to daytime memory and found that it was only at .19. Also, while checking task manager the cpu usage was maxed at 100% and i thought the ram was at only 1.5gb being used. Ill recheck again but do these numbers seem right. Should I have seen more progress using 6000 more mb of memory overnight?

What kinda work are you doing?
Basic idea: the "supper-dupper-larger-memory" helps only in stage 2 of "P-1" or "ECM" work types, and it helps in the sense that it increases your chances to find a factor. It does not make your test "to run faster", and it has no influence for other different types of work (LL, DC, TF, etc). Have a look into *.txt file that come in Prime95 package (like readme.txt, undoc.txt, etc). The CPU is normal to run at 100% and produce a lot of heat. If you have heat troubles or stability issues, you have to decrease the clock (where is possible), use "throttling" (the program runs few milliseconds, and wait few milliseconds, see undoc.txt), or select different type of work which is not so "stressful" for the CPU. Running to LL tests currently. I understand a little better now. I don't expect heat issues, I'm currently running a 120mm heat sync fan. Also, what you said about stage 2 increasing the chance to find a factor. So estimated finish date is December 16th, if a factor is found a week from now, will it assign me a new number to start working on?

According to PrimeNet, neither of those exponents requires P-1 (that work having already been done). Your computer should be doing LL testing, for which extra memory makes no difference. (Faster memory might help, but it's not worth any bother to change it.)
(Edit: @D: There's proof that everything is at 72, and everything above 58M will be at 73 once assigned.) Last fiddled with by Dubslow on 2012-09-10 at 14:27 |

I'll check once I get home. But what your saying is I can put the memory back at 8mb and it won't make a difference?

Just getting started so I just wanted to make sure I'm doing things efficiently. So I shouldn't expect to finish before the estimated finish date?
I did check my assignments and they are LL assignments. What I meant by stage 2 was the overnight memory. Last fiddled with by Hatterz on 2012-09-10 at 14:45 |
