GUI for Mprime/running Prime95 under WINE?

I know that Mprime does not have a native GUI, but does anyone know if there are any third-party GUIs available? I know that many popular command-line have unofficial GUIs, so I'm wondering if one exists for Mprime.

Also, are there any disadvantages in running Prime95 under WINE?

I don't know of any. It might be an amusing learning exercise to code one up in Perl/Tk

Why not suck it and see? Shouldn't take more than an hour or so to check the obvious pitfalls. Assuming it works at all, performance should be pretty near identical to the native Windoze.

Apart from performance, you mean? No, I don't see any.

Just out of curiosity, I grabbed the last 26.5.2 version and put it under Wine: started like a charm. Communication is ok (requested a couple of assignments), did a little stress test, without errors, benchmarked the results and compared those with results of the native linux version (see attachment).

Bottom line: Wine vs. native linux is an approximate +10% per iteration when working on a single core, and an approximate +25% when working on two cores.

One only caveat: despite having a 64-bit OS version, I had to use the 32-bit Prime95 Windows version to make it run under Wine.

Test conditions (FWIW): Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit, Wine 1.3.13

Wine 1.2.0 and later can run 64-bit Windows programs on 64-bit host OS, but it must be compiled for Win64 support (--enable-win64, IIRC)

I'll agree I'd like to see a perl filter that separates out the various worker and communications threads into separate windows...teasing out one thread from six interspersed requires me to be awake. But don't spend too much effort on it, as I don't want it taking much away from the real work happening underneath..

True, debrouxl, though for this case I find it hard to believe that it would be *that much* faster

to fill such a gap.
