OK, learned folks! Sorry to hijack this thread for a bit, but why does my computer hang immediately upon loading the page at this link? It is repeatable. Is my ancient hardware (Core2 Quad) somehow incompatible with a web page? Or my OS (Fedora) or browser (Firefox)?

BTW, I did run mprime again with blended tests for a while and all passed.

No idea since I can't replicate your result.

When you say "hang" does that men the entire machine is dead? Or just the browser?

If it is the whole machine then perhaps your graphics driver needs fixing. Try disabling videos. It has a bunch of mp4 links that might be all trying to play at once or something?

If just the browser then try a different one.

Or do the global fix I apply to all Internet problem: disable JS. Then you'll never have problems ever again.

This is the entire machine. Even the Numlock LED is locked. You're probably correct as to the video being overrun. The card is rather old:

I experienced this once before in a single instance on some other linked page. I tried that site again and all was well. This time, this site fails repeatably. Thanks!

My entire machine sometimes hangs, sometimes just the GUI. I am pretty damned sure that it is a driver problem given the symptoms reported in /var/log/syslog. Very occasionally killing the window manager from a ssh session or alternate console is successful. Other times, the system can be rebooted. Worst case requires the use of the BRS.

The Nouveau driver flatly refuses to allocated enough memory. I am using a 4k monitor and it only allocates for 1920x1080. Most of the time it works, but opening new or rapidly moving existing large windows can cause grief. The same monitor and/or Nvidia card works just fine under Windoze.

Repeated searches for solutions have turned up nothing, so if anyone has any ideas ...
