check the configuration file.

You didn't configure an e-mail address, and you need to change the ecm3b.exe to your own executable of GMP-ECM

I suggest that you get the latest ECMNet code and build it. Links are provided in this forum. I cannot help you with an GMP-ECM build, but I recommend that you use GMP-ECM 6.0.1.

I find a file named ecm3sp.exe under the directory of C:\ecmnet
and when I change the configuration
exefile=ECM3b.EXE
to
exefile=ecm3sp.exe
it appears the following information

[2006-01-17 01:46:24 GMT] ECMNET Client application v2.5.8 started
[2006-01-17 01:46:24 GMT] User email address is wreck2005@hotmail.com
[2006-01-17 01:46:47 GMT] 193.128.60.129:8194 connect to socket failed
[2006-01-17 01:46:47 GMT] Could not connect to any servers and no work is pendin
g. Pausing 20 minutes

I download the source of ecm6.0.1 but I found it is very hard to get the ecm.exe
I'm confused why not avalable the executable file directly.

You can find pre-compiled binaries here:
http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=4087

Currently, 193.128.60.129:8194 seems to be connectable. I haven't tested whether ECMnet is running, though...

Try some different servers. I usually set a combination of servers so that if some are off line for a while the client moves on to others. Here are three of my servers and one of Greg Childers:

server=25:Eleven:elevensmooth.no-ip.org:8194
server=25:OPNmost:oddperfect.no-ip.com:8201
server=25:OPNmore:oddperfect.no-ip.com:8202
server=25:Childer:childers.myip.org:34

If this generates work then you are configured OK except for server addresses.

I got problems with ECMnet as well, for some reason the server is giving out the same curves to everyone, i am not sure if it should be doing that but on the server when a user connects to the server the same B1 and the same number of curves are given to the client, is this normal?

[Date Time] name: Received name <length 301> : ECM with B1=29000000000 * Number Curves

I want to know how to change the server address
here is the content of file ecmclient.cfg

Quote:
// email= is a REQUIRED field (either here, or on the command line)
// Comment the next line out, and fill in your email address.
// bak email=tcharron@interlog.com
email=wreck2005@hotmail.com

// Unique machine id if more than one machine uses the above email.
// Default is "machine_1"
id=machine_1

// Default in the executable is 127.0.0.1 (which is always localhost)
// Paul Leyland runs a server at 193.128.60.129
// If you have your own server, change this...
server=193.128.60.129

// Default exefile is ECM3b.EXE
// Note that ecm3b.exe Can not be stopped with ctrl-break. If you want to stop this
// easily, then use the slightly slower ecm3.exe (not included here -- see
// http://www.loria.fr/~zimmerma/records/ecmnet.html)
// exefile=ecm3sp.exe
exefile=ecm.exe

// Default port is 8194
port=8194

// Default idle status is 1 (idle)
idle=1

// hide=1 will only work under windows 95, and not even very well there yet. ;(
hide=0

// Minimum delay between server connections
// (default is 12 hours, minimum is 1 minute)
// Note that the actual used in the client is anywhere from 90% to 110% of this value
maxfreq=720

// Timeout on communications errors
// (default is 20 minutes, minimum is 1 minute)
// Note that the actual used in the server is anywhere from 90% to 110% of this value
errtimeout=20

// Size limit for the ecmclient.log file...
// 0 means no limit.
// -1 means no log.
loglimit=5000000

// smallini=1 will make the client purge unrequired entries from its INI file.
smallini=0
// Directory to use as default directory (configure only if directory problems exist)
// curdir=c:\ecmnet

As I said before, start with the latest ECMNet software. The current version is 2.7.0. The cfg file explains how to set that value. There is another file that lists some of the known ECMNet servers that the client can connect to.

razorwing, how did you set the strategies in ecmserver.cfg?

Ditto to Rogue's comments - you should get the latest ECMnet server and client. You have an old server configuration file - it can only connect to a single server, and it has the server and port setting on separate lines. Using this client, when people changed projects they often returned work to the wrong server. Also, if the single server is not available, the client stalls. These and many more things were improved in the latest server.

The server behavior depends on the configuration settings and returned work. Until work is returned for a number, all assignments will have the same count and B1. There are settings that will always assign the same number - there are other settings that will assign a mixture of numbers even when no work has been returned.
