If you had started with a link or at least naming the thread where you found the document it would have been easier to answer.
The thread DC Project Guides hasn't been changed since 2006, it is closed.
The post where you found the cited document DC Project Guides and the document itself date from 2005. No wonder some links are dead.

You are looking for a million digit factoring program ? There are a few current threads where you will find them. You could look in Kriesel blogs if you don't want to search in the Factoring or Primenet Threads.

I will do the work for you : there is this thread and post for instance : Kriesel blog sub-site map which provides a list of programs for different uses.

If you are looking to do TF in the 100M digit range, it would be best to have a GPU working on them. And you don't need to use Factor5. The mfact- programs do very well on those numbers.

Use the reference info. It has been created since 2018 and is currently being actively maintained. Start with the new participant thread and the first few posts in the following thread listed /linked in the site map. Knowledge and understanding will help avoid delays and irritation for already-answered questions and silly inefficient choices.
The "Available mersenne prime hunting software" attachment is a must-read and understand, in my opinion. Skim the rest of the index for future reference.
Choosing Factor5 is a symptom of a substantial lack of understanding specific to GIMPS. That probably is very curable.


The DC guide was created years before the beginning of development of GPU GIMPS software, some of which can be run on some IGPs. Perhaps a moderator could edit https://www.mersenneforum.org/showpo...05&postcount=1 to include a notice that some of the content is quite obsolete and a link or more than one to more current info.

Nice! I got gmp-fermat-win and i am wondering how to make a user. Can you show me how? I may also have to alternate because it make gimps slower obviously.
