We have 6 mystery smilies that need to be assigned.
The rules: You may vote for a total of 3 forum members. You may vote for the same forum member only once. You may vote only once. In the end, we'll tally up the votes and the lucky (?) winners will be assigned a random smiley. Don't wait! Act now! This is a limited time offer. (We'll probably end this "contest" sometime during the weekend.) |

Your extended space for posts and limited columns for smileys is a great idea, provided one knows how to retrieve the ones that are not on the main page. I would like you to retain the Cat for Kees. A bamboo stalk with a grafted rose sprouting for Paul Xilman as he can make sense out of a nonsensical post. Thats if he doesnt mind the change And please retain the coffee or a coffee pot for me in honour of Paul Erdos. Thank you. Mally

If you have a smiley with a mischievous expression, it should definitely go to Ernst!

The decorative roses that people like to grow don't have very strong roots. Wild roses (dog roses they're called round here) have very vigorous root systems so a leaf bud from a decorative road is inserted into a slit cut into the stem of a dog rose. The skill has occasionally come in useful in later years. I doubt that a rose bud would survive in a bamboo shoot, but it's not obviously impossible. I may carry out the experiment next spring. It's much too late in the year to attempt it now. Paul Last fiddled with by xilman on 2006-09-20 at 18:19 |

As to how one goes about getting a cool monkey smilie ... well, I did have to fill out a rather lengthy ape-lication form. (Yes, Paul, I *know* they're not ... but conflating the 2 families was necessary for the pun to work). Also, I do hope there won't be any jealous squabbles over the bamboo smilie - that could potentially lead to a bamboo shooting. Regarding the coffee icon, I say leave the name unchanged - if we wish to honor Erdo"s, I suggest a speedometer smilie (since mere coffee wasn't nearly strong enough for the mighty Mr. E) - or would that count as a mischievous suggestion? |

Well, Wacky (Richard Wackenbarth) has had some pretty funny posts lately in the soapbox, so he's my next choice.

Xyzzy,
I don't suppose the poll feature allows for checkboxes instead of radio buttons. That would work perfectly for this. Suggestion: If you came up with one or two adjectives for each mystery smilie, it may help get the votes coming in. Or just listed the original names, if available? Bruce |
