I feel that it is too easy to accidently download the full number in ASCII text by clicking on the digit size in this sentence at mersenne.org:
"The new prime at 9,808,358 digits is 650,000 digits larger than their previous record prime found last December."

Last time GIMPS found a prime number, I accidently did this myself while expecting to get some facts about what a number this size would occupy in pages of common sized text, etc.

Interestingly (or not), while searching with Google for "9,808,358 prime" (no quotes in search query) , the fourth hit is an unrelated entry pertaining to twin prime gaps:

Twin Prime Pairs from 70000000 to 80000000
Number of Twin Prime Pairs less than 80000000 = 361450 ... 9807380,9807500,9807758,9808040,9808160,9808358,9808502,9808748,9809048, ...

OK, OK, you convinced me.
A winning streak (like 5 Mersenne primes in 3 years) has to run out some time, and if that long dry spell in Mersenne primes is long overdue, we'll need every last spare CPU cycle out there! And I guess now is a good time to join the mersenne prime search, professor (of Chemistry) Boone says: "The next one almost has to be over 10 million digits". Yes, think EFF!

Thanks Jeff Gilchrist, for running a 2nd verification!!

Look, it's Curt Cooper und Steven R. Boone, sitting in front of a large decimal number!

"What's better than finding one Mersenne prime? Finding two," says Steven Boone [...].
The article explains about Mersenne primes: "Mersenne primes are part of a special class of rare primes". Wow, impressive. Look ma, no formula or explanation!

"Individuals who are interested in obtaining software to participate in the project can do so by visiting the [mersenne.org] Web site." What?! He didn't say the magic word: FREE!! The FREE software! Will someone please ask them to insert that little word into the story?!

Well, maybe we should look at it this way: at least they quoted George!

He's surprisingly responsive, given the massive amount of work he must have keeping his excellent website.
