Even if you can sieve the pattern in the original sequence, you might not conceive this odd variation
3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 13, .... question |

4+2=6 6*5=30 30+5=35 I guess this is too simple, but I try it anyway :) or 2*2=4 4+2=6 6*5=30 30+6=36 |

But, in any case, you need to give a "rule". It would seem that you have two alternating definitions (which is certainly fine), but it is not obvious why the 5 is chosen in line 3. |

I don't think this is the solution either ;) The logic behind it was to multiply by a number, than add the same number. Why 5? e.g. 2.5*2. By the second one, multiply by a number, add the same number, then multiply by another and add the previous sum. I know it must have a more difficult answer, but as it is now, the solution might as well be what I wrote..... |

Remember that we can always fit any finite sequence to any number of "complex" rules. The puzzle is to have a "simple" rule. |

You are right!
I think the solution has something to do with primes. Every number +1 is a prime. And 42, the number that supposed to be part of it, too. But I can't figure out, why this sequence? |

But you agree it has something to do with primes. So I did figure out something :)
