In my experience, most computer power supplies do NOT come with PFC - the only ones I have that do are fairly high-end ones, like the NMB for my Tyan s2462 Thunder. I remember being VERY plesently supprised when I noted the almost 1.0 power factor on that one - I'm *used* to seeing .7 or thereabouts.
I use a Brand 1850 power meter for my measurements - cost me around $100, and works quite nicely. |

After reading this thread I ordered an E Tech Power Meter. (It cost me SEK364 including SEK125 for transport.) These are the results I get:

Plug the machine into a modern UPS. I have a few APC UPS Backup Pro units, they log the load being used as a percantage of their capacity.
My server is running at "42.3%" according to the data log, since the UPS is 650w my server is consuming 274.9w (run the math out from there if you want $ figures), which doesn't suprise me since it has 5 hard drives and 2 NICs. -Dan |
