Sorry to be so lowbrow. I haven't been reading Scientific American much in the last 30 years. Still, if we want mass exposure, I think this is the way to go. How did we get that article placed? Or did it just happen?
I asked Sci American why they had the article about Distributed Computing and how they found out about GIMPS. They said that the entire idea was started when someone on staff found out about M39 (GIMPS has altered history :D ). The article does not directly talk about GIMPS, it talks about the whole idea of Distributed Computing. I wish I still had the issue and the article, but it vanished from my stack of magazines :( .

When M40 is found we need to tell every news media we can think of about the find. See this tread http://www.mersenneforum.org/viewtopic.php?t=761 “Ideas for a novice GIMPS client”

Well, actually the article I was thinking of was in March 2002 in the Anthrax Edition. The magazine had a much better article than the free online one :? , but it gives the idea. http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?colID=1&articleID=000770CC-3712-1CEE-93F6809EC5880000.

I’m glad to see that Distributed Computing has been in sci American more than once :D .
